Thierry Vaudor's first approach to music was through playing bass in rock groups. He then studied jazz and big band arrangement, which lead him to instrumental and electroacoustic music composition at the University of Montreal.

After the completion of his M.A. and several years of installation shows and musical projects, looking to explore beyond the strict contemporary music boundaries, he went on to be a multimedia and sound designer.

With the coming of new digital tools and inspired by the freedom of genre-bending music from some artists in recent years, he has returned to music composition under the pseudonym total normal.
